What we do

for your project

We work with architects, contractors, engineers, and building owners to navigate Texas Accessibility Standards from first submittal through final inspection — with expert guidance, plain language, and a genuine investment in your project’s success.

01

TDLR Project Registration

Registration handled end-to-end, including Central Appraisal District research.

Every commercial project subject to Texas Accessibility Standards must be registered with TDLR before construction begins. We handle the registration process on your behalf — including the Central Appraisal District research required to gather project information — so you can stay focused on design.

Includes

  • Project information gathering
  • CAD research & owner verification
  • TDLR submission & confirmation
02

Plan Review

Catch compliance issues before they become construction issues.

We review your construction documents against Texas Accessibility Standards before you break ground — catching compliance issues early, when they're far less expensive to fix. You'll receive a detailed report of any items requiring attention, along with clear guidance on what needs to change and why.

Includes

  • Full document review against TAS
  • Itemized findings with code citations
  • Plain-language guidance for revisions
03

On-Site Inspection

A thorough walkthrough at substantial completion, with a formal report.

When construction is complete, we conduct a thorough on-site inspection to verify that the finished work meets TAS requirements. You'll receive a formal inspection report documenting compliance status for each applicable element.

Includes

  • On-site verification of completed work
  • Formal inspection report
  • Element-by-element compliance documentation
04

Consultation

Available at any stage — design, construction, or pre-inspection.

Available at any stage of a project — design, construction, or pre-inspection. We cover code interpretation, document review, on-site walkthroughs, or a straightforward assessment of where your project stands against TAS requirements. Available by phone, video, or in person.

Includes

  • Code interpretation & guidance
  • Document or specification review
  • Site walkthroughs & pre-inspection checks

How I got here

“I grew up in Ovilla, Texas, and spent the last decade working in construction management across the state. Six years ago I landed in Waco, and in 2025 I decided to take that experience in a new direction by becoming a Registered Accessibility Specialist and founding Central Texas Accessibility.”

The honest version of how I got here: I saw a need. There wasn’t a dedicated RAS serving this area, and I saw that as an opportunity worth pursuing. What I didn’t expect was how much I’d come to genuinely care about the work itself. There’s something really satisfying about the precision that accessibility compliance requires — and something that matters to me personally about making sure every building we construct is usable by everyone who needs it.

I bring ten years of real construction experience to every review and inspection — which means I understand your drawings, your constraints, and your timeline, not just the code.

As a RAS, I’m not just an inspector, but a real person who genuinely enjoys this work and takes the relationships I build seriously — and my goal is to be the person you call on every project. If you have a question — whether you’re at schematic design or wrapping up construction — just reach out.

04FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About TAS Compliance in Texas

A Registered Accessibility Specialist is licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to review construction documents and inspect completed buildings for compliance with Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS). A RAS handles project registration, plan review, and final inspection — the three steps required by Texas law for commercial construction projects valued at $50,000 or more.

Any new construction, renovation, or alteration project in Texas with a total estimated construction cost of $50,000 or more must be registered with TDLR and reviewed by a Registered Accessibility Specialist. The licensed design professional must submit construction documents to a RAS within 20 business days of issuing them for permitting.

The RAS conducts a thorough walkthrough of the completed construction to verify that accessible routes, parking, entrances, restrooms, signage, door hardware, and all other TAS-regulated elements meet the Texas Accessibility Standards. You receive a formal inspection report documenting compliance status for each applicable element, which is also filed with TDLR.

Plan review fees are based on total construction cost. At Central Texas Accessibility, plan reviews start at $425 for projects between $50,000 and $200,000, and scale up to $900 for projects between $5 million and $10 million. TDLR project registration is a flat $275, which includes the required $175 state filing fee. See our full fee schedule for details.

We're based in Waco, Texas, and serve architects, contractors, and building owners throughout the Central Texas region — including Temple, Killeen, Round Rock, Georgetown, and surrounding communities. Statewide travel is available on a project-by-project basis; projects outside the Waco area are billed a travel reimbursement at the current IRS standard mileage rate.

TAS (Texas Accessibility Standards) is the state-level building code for accessibility in Texas, enforced by TDLR. ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) is the federal civil rights law. TAS closely mirrors the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, but Texas has additional administrative requirements — including mandatory project registration, plan review by a RAS, and a final inspection within one year of completion. Projects in Texas must comply with TAS; federal projects may also need to meet ADA directly.

Projects with a total estimated construction cost under $50,000 are not required to register with TDLR or submit for a formal plan review and inspection. However, the project is still required to comply with TAS. If you're unsure whether your project triggers the requirement, contact us for a quick assessment.
